Does anyone else DREAD school supply shopping?
It takes forever, the supplies aren’t in a logic order, there’s always an item you can’t find. You can’t find notebook colors to match the folder colors when you need 7 different colors.
I planned to put it off awhile, per usual, except that at basketball practice drop off, three of us Moms decided to just get it over with, while we were waiting for the kids.
So off we went and in about 45 minutes, we knocked out that list.
And it feels great to be done a month before school starts🙌🏼
If I been alone, I probably still would have been standing in the notebook & folder aisle, puzzling over what to get.
For my son who really doesn’t care anyways.🤷🏻♀️🤣
My point is:
👉🏼Being a perfectionist holds us back
👉🏼Not making decisions and overthinking holds us back
👉🏼Doing it alone, not asking for help, holds us back.
I see a lot of similarities to your health and fitness journey, whether you are trying to lose weight, gain health, feel amazing, get more fit, whatever it is.
👉🏼Being a perfectionist, having an all or nothing mentality, will absolutely hold you back from meeting your goals, whether they are weight loss, better health, better energy, whatever. You have to get comfortable with not being perfect but being CONSISTENT.
👉🏼Not fully committing to your goals, by going back and forth, saying you’re too busy, too stressed, too tired and will work on it later / next week / next month will also hold you back. Sometimes you have to stop the overthinking and just commit to your journey. This is why it’s important that what you are doing is SUSTAINABLE for your life. In other words, don't go keto or completely cut out sugar unless you think you eat that way forever.
👉🏼Going at your health journey alone, not asking for help, also stops you from meeting your goals. As a registered dietitian, I can help lay the path you need and guide you through it. In other words, simplify things for you. Also, not asking for the support of your family and friends on your journey can also hold you back. Clear communication about what you are working on and how they can help [or not harm] is key.
